Text engl. - An extremely rare edition cosisting of printed title page and written contents plus mounted prints, bound into a volume. Addison Gallery of American Art copy: 174 mounted albumen prints (6 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches) in a leatherbound volume (10x13x4 inches). Also, there are two copies at the Library of Congess, Washington, DC - one in the Prints and Photographs Dept., the other in the Rare Book Dept. (03.2008).

Complete copies are extremely rare, and many collections of Muybridge plates never followed his sequencing in volumes - rather there are quite a number of collections who hold many single loose plates (which were available at the time of publication also) instead of 11 folio volumes incl. all 781 plates. Plate size ea. ca. 18 3/8x23 1/4 inches. Some plates show incorrect sequence numbers. A small parallel publication with the same title, but with an additional sentence „Prospectus and catalogue of plates“ lists all plates. - „ANS: 16 vols. in 2°. Plates 128, 137 and 531 in duplicate; pl. 47, 115, 128 (2), 131, 137 (1), 150, 195 and 531 (1), mutilated. - GEH missing plates: 11, 18, 61, 82, 85, 88, 95, 98,100, 101, 119, 131, 172, 173, 192, 224, 235, 250, 275, 341, 372, 384, 417, 430, 438, 440, 455, 473, 506, 551, 563, 568, 579, 603, 628, 632, 654, 661, 663, 670, 691, 697, 706, 712, 713, 716, 726, 728, 732, 735, 745, 766 (02.2008).
